Linda Pierson of Linda’s Hair Design created a room in her salon for Wigs for the Cure.

Coping with hair loss during chemotherapy can be one of the many emotional parts of a cancer diagnosis and when you live in a rural area and options for hair replacement are limited.

Searching for a wig in 2015 proved to be a challenge for cancer survivor Pam Mattson. Pam knew that if she was having a struggle with this issue others must be, too. When Mattson did find a wig she felt a renewed sense of confidence and felt more like herself. She knew something had to be done to help others in Mora who would surely face the same dilemma in the future.

Mattson and Mary Rogers decided to put that idea into action. Linda Pierson, owner and operator of Linda’s Hair Design in Mora, shared the desire to provide wigs to women who were going through chemotherapy.

Pierson generously donated a separate room at her salon which was quickly transformed into a private yet warm and personal atmosphere for women in Mora who want or need a wig. In May of 2016 the Wigs for the Cure room opened its doors.

Since opening Linda has personally helped over 25 women from Kanabec and immediate surrounding counties choose a wig to wear until their own hair grows back.

All of the wigs are selected, styled and cut if needed to allow each woman to look and feel their best. Linda is proud of the fact that not one woman has come in that she has not been able to provide with a perfect wig to match their own true natural look. And the best part is that all of the wigs and wig products have been provided 100 percent free of charge. All donations are used locally. A gift to the beautiful women of this area that would not be possible if it were not for the kindness, generosity and support of this community.

The Wigs for the Cure room is always open and you are invited and encouraged to stop in and see for yourself the large selection of wigs available for women in need of this service.
